backstory : my history of art (pt. 1)
1:26 AMhello again.
so I wanted to talk a bit about my form & history of art, and mediums/tools that I used in art making.
my current art style(s) are genuinely anime/manga, and also semi-realism where I incorporate some realism elements into an anime/manga drawing. in the early years of my art history (when I was still a kid), I didn't start off with an anime/manga style, in fact I didn't even know what an anime/manga were until I stumbled upon channel NTV7 & TV3 (we didn't own an Astro back then) which airs anime (if I'm not mistaken, every Sat & Sun). my first few animes were Fullmetal Alchemist, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Petite Princess Yuichi, Naruto, and these that were pretty much common & predictable as a Malaysian kid - Doraemon and Crayon Shin Chan.
the first time I watched it, ultimately & immediately fell in love with it. not only the plots, but at how amazing the animation, graphics, and effects were made. looking at it somehow sparked something in me, that made me said to myself, "I want to draw". and so it begins - my hellish (not really) practices to be able to draw like the anime that I've watched. the drawings that I made were only doodles & unfinished drawings, which pretty much satisfies the little me (sometimes) because I never knew what I'm capable of.
even so, if my present self were to look back at my old drawings, I wanna gouge my eyes out (seriously) because its really.. bloody ugly. now, I am really grateful of how much I improved despite all of the hardships. my art improves little by little - reading Gempak Starz comics & translated mangas, used lotsssss of references, always referred to my favorite professional artists (instagram links below), endless practice (though I took a long hiatus from 2011 until mid 2013 for certain reasons and continued back on 2014) - it helps me a lot.
for now, I'm going to split this post into 2 parts where I'll talk about the mediums/tools that I used on pt. 2. will post the second part tomorrow..or might even be next week idk OKAY BYE
