backstory : mediums/tools (pt.2)

10:58 PM

hello~ I'm dead bored not doing anything so I guess I'll do the second part then (though I'm kind of lazy OTL)

here I will give a detailed & brief info about each mediums/tools that I used in making art for future reference so that I don't have to be asked about it too many times ._.

1. the basic stuffs

I'll start of with some pretty basic stuffs used when drawing/sketch - I used 2 different types of pencils, a PILOT Rexgrip in 0.5 (mainly used & physically abused lol) & a ZEBRA Z-Grip in 0.5. for the mechanical lead, I used a standard BUNCHO in 0.5. for eraser, I pretty much use anything that is good and doesn't easily smudge/damage the paper (in the picture, I used a regular Faber Castell eraser). type of ruler doesn't matter as long as I can use it to measure stuffs and draw straight lines.

the reason why I have a mathematical instruments? I actually only used one thing from it; a compasses to make symmetrical circles (e.g. background patterns, etc). I rarely used it though

2. inking pens/decorative pens

these are the inking/decorative pens that I always used and each of them serves different purposes.

1 - SAKURA Pigma Micron pens

I recently bought these pens online because these pens' brand is one of the brand that is compatible with a coloring medium that I used, Copic Markers, where it doesn't bleed/smudge when it is used with Copic. it is also a water-based ink, fade & chemical resistant, and waterproof. comes in different sizes of tip; in my case, I own a 005 (0.20mm), 01 (0.25mm), 02 (0.30mm) and 04 (0.40mm). the brand SAKURA originated from Japan, so you can have high expectations on Japan's art supplies :)

2 - ArtLine

this is actually my starter pens I used to inked my drawings, coupled with regular colour pencils. definitely not compatible with Copic because it bleeds and smudge with any alcohol-based coloring markers (or other types of marker idk). the sizes of tip that I own are Artline 220 (0.2, super fine), Artline 200 (0.4, fine), Artline 210 (0.6, medium) and Artline Drawing System (0.7) which imo, this one might be a little bit special & more advantages compared to other artline idek why. I used this to do doodles only, lately

3 - decorative coloured gel pens

nothing much I can say about this one. bought it at a really cheap price in a cheap store. the tip size is 0.5 & came in 6 colours - purple, aqua blue, pink, bright orange, neon green and black (though I saw at other stores selling the same brand of coloured gel pens sets but with more than 6 colours). I used it for cute decoratives also small details.

3. whites

used in adding a special shining effects such as light reflected on an anime hair, eyes, also adding some sparkles.

1 - BUNCHO Watercolor (the label sticker was ripped sorry)

used with a brush (which currently, MIA). I took the white color only from the watercolor box xD used to add whites on anime eyes. rarely use it though

2 - SAKURA Gelly Roll Opaque White

the same brand as the Pigma Micron inking pens. recently bought this online & since then always being used most of the time. can also functions the same way as a corrector liquid but with a lot more precision. also came in different sets of colours, either opaque or sparkles. i think this is a must-have if you're an anime artist that does art traditionally, imo.

3 - Faber-Castell correction liquid

says itself in the title; to correct stuffs but with less precision.

4 - Paper Mate 300 Gel

for adding gold or silver sparkles in drawings but rarely used.

4. coloring mediums

COPIC Sketch Markers - 36 Colors set

okay so I called these babies, an artist's magic wand. made in Japan (like I said, you can be expective of how good these are) by Too Corporation, these things are mostly used by mangakas in Japan or anyone who does anime arts. Copic has a wide range of art equipments, from airbrush and sketch books, to multiliners; but my main focus here is about the markers.

COPIC has 4 different types of markers : -

- Copic Original (square-shaped); two different nibs (broad nib & fine nib) on each end sides that are also replaceable up to 9 different types of nibs. color range up to 214 colors.

- Copic Ciao (circle-shaped); also two different nibs on each end sides (super brush & medium broad), also replaceble nibs. Ciao are the perfect choice for beginning artists who want to try markers for the first time. the cheapest among the 4 markers, but doesn't hold much ink.  color range up to 144 colors.

- Copic Sketch (oval-shaped); also the same, different nibs on each end sides (brush nib & broad nib) and the nibs are replaceable too. among these 4 types of markers, Sketch are the most popular one because not only it holds 3x much more ink than Ciao that could last up to 3 years, it has the widest range of colors up to 358 colors. however, there's a catch; ITS THE MOST EXPENSIVE AMONG ALL 4 TYPES OF MARKERS.

- Copic Wide (flat oval-shaped; bigger in size compared to the other 3); Wide is 3x wider than regular Copic Markers & also has a consistent coverage for large areas like background, has only one large nib. color range so far only up to 36 colors.

Copic Markers are alcohol-based ink (which makes it easily blends with other colors), permanent, non-toxic...oh and did I mention that all of these Copic Markers & other Copic products are REFILLABLE??

so back to my markers, so far I only own a Sketch 36 Colors set + 3 others that I ordered individually online. these markers are suuuuuuper good & i think it'll be even great if you have a wide range of colors, though if you want to see good results, you have to consider about choosing the right type of paper that can support COPIC Markers..also the inking pens that you're using (COPIC have their own pens too called COPIC Multiliner & COPIC Multiliner SP though I prefer SAKURA because its much cheaper). currently I am still in practice on how to use the markers more thoroughly and also trying to get used to it. I would buy more if I have money though... *internal screaming*

Faber-Castell Classic colour pencils & STABILO Swans Jumbo colour pencils

I rarely use these already because I only use COPIC recently (sorry color pencils :'( ) i'll try expanding more of the varieties of my color pencils, and also I'm saving up for a set of Prismacolor colour pencils.

and lastly...

5. sketch books

1 - BeePaper Artist Marker Pad, Professional Series
